How we count the deadlines

We count two deadlines from the day a request is delivered: 7 calendar days, and 7 working days, which skip Saturdays, Sundays and federal public holidays. If the body sends notice that it needs more time, we add 7 days to each. We treat the later of the two as the legal deadline.

A request still waiting for a reply after that day is shown as "No response by the legal deadline". We mark a request as refused by silence ourselves, after checking.

A court application must be filed within 30 days of a refusal, or of a refusal by silence. For a refusal by silence we count the 30 days from the legal deadline, which gives the earlier of the possible dates.

Public holidays checked on 3 October 2026, complete to 24 December 2026. Each request's page lists the holidays its deadline skipped, with their sources.
